Master Social Situations Easily

I’d never heard of the DISC assessment system, but apparently it’s been around since 1929, created by an influential psychiatrist named William Marston. Something that’s survived that long isn’t just some passing fad. The way Bogdan Vaida explains it, it’s a fun, simple resource for quickly figuring out what dominant personality type you are and how to interact with opposing personalities. Of course, it’s not “one-size-fits-all,” but it’s much easier to narrow it down to one simple element than to try to organize a bunch of letters. If you can accurately peg what sort of person you’re dealing with, it can make life go much more smoothly.

The four different aspects are Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, and Caution. Bogdan goes through each aspect, talking about what it means to be that type of personality and then giving you assignments to help you practice being more receptive to others. I myself fall under “dominant,” so it was nice to be able to step back and realize the impact that my behavior had. It’s not like he makes you feel bad, though. You just have to learn how to make it so it doesn’t negatively affect the people around you. And if you don’t like how you are, there are even suggestions for how to change your personality type.

And, funnily enough, that’s the other element of the course: how to apply your newfound knowledge towards such important parts of your life like relationships and work. Bogdan uses clear, concise language and presents the material in a fun way. Using what I now know from him, I’ve been able to make subtle but effective changes to my behavior, and the results have been positive so far. I recommend it for anyone who wants to get to know themselves better.
