Recovery from Sex Addiction: What it means and how to get into a recovering lifestyle?

Chris is the first speaker and his part is called Defining Our Sobriety. Just by reading that title, I never thought of actually defining my sobriety before. I just say I am clean from random sex and for how long but what that really means, doesn’t cross my mind often. I don’t generally go back and think about why I got clean from that lifestyle it just happens each day when I continue on that path. In reality, there is a story behind all of it and reasons why I can’t go back to my sex addictive lifestyle.

I hold so much shame and guilt from my past. I have done sexual acts I am certainly not proud of now that I am in recovery. However, I need to let those go. I need to heal from them. Listening to the shame and guilt portion of this course did make me cry. However, it was also freeing to help me remember that I needed to let it go to my Higher Power. It was only holding me back and honestly is another trigger for a relapse.

I really enjoy the tools for healthy dating. After I got into recovery from my sex addiction, I didn’t know the first thing about healthy dating. I had never, ever gone on a healthy date in my life before my recovery. It was a new thing for me. I had to work hard to not act out in sexual ways. Honestly, the cravings for my sex addiction were far worse than with my alcohol addiction.

The Letting Go of Relationships vs. Running Away is one that I loved. I had a tough time with this as I was a runner for sure. There is so much more peace involved with me when I let go instead of run.

Hopefully this information will reach more sex addicts and help them to see a better lifestyle is possible.
