Mind, mind, go away. Let me sleep until the day.
To be completely frank, I have not been practicing meditation as much as I used to. This is, in part, due to my lack of discipline and alignment with my egoic pains that drive me to distract myself rather than give myself attention. When it comes to getting a good, restful night’s sleep, it is hard for me to turn off my mind and drift away into REM sleep. Sometimes I stay awake until 3 or 4 in the morning watching television in hopes of getting tired, but with my overactive brain, it can prove to be quite a challenge.
I am currently living on my mother’s couch after returning from my travels in South America. I renounced most of my things and set out to create a life that is ultimately different than what I have been taught is the “norm” or “right way,” but when you don’t have your own space to zen out and drift away peacefully, it can wear you down, and sleep can become one of your greatest challenges.
In particular, one of my greatest challenges is entering a positive mindset before I go to sleep. Sometimes when I am laying with my thoughts I am bombarded with all the worries and anxiety that I have been bottling up all day and I just can’t find the courage to go to sleep because I am afraid of having bad dreams. I decided to give these meditations a try. I really enjoy that many of them are guided meditations.
While simple meditation music is nice, it can be difficult to guide yourself effectively if you aren’t familiar with how it works for you, or are new to the practice altogether. I have only tried a handful of these, but I am very pleased to say that they made a world of difference in the quality of my rest. So, if you struggle with insomnia, or just an overactive mind like yours truly, you should definitely give this audio collection your attention for an evening or two and see how it works for you.
