Easy, grounded meditations for many different uses
Brian Hyman’s meditations are well rounded and accessible for anyone from beginners to seasoned meditators. His “How to Meditate” track is a great place to start. He guides you in creating the space you need to meditate first, and how to breathe and sit straight while relaxing the shoulders. Then he moves on top what it means to focus on the present moment; letting go of thinking about what you have to do. As he puts it, you leave it in the future so you can be here right now. This is beneficial for those struggling with anxiety and depression, or anyone who has a hard time settling down for themselves. When work and chores and responsibilities hinder us and stress us out in this way, it’s important to go back to present awareness and just be.
He offers multiple guided meditations with varying sound. Some start with bells, some have soft music. Some are for some of the toughest things, like removing fear, growing our gratitude, acceptance (of ourselves, life, things as they are), and he even has one for meditating “on a flower”. I found this one really interesting and liberating. Instead of focusing so much on trying to heal, evolve, improve, find my purpose, etc, I could just relax and be present with the flower in my hand. To appreciate the beauty and fleeting existence of a flower is a great way to practice meditation. By acknowledging what we feel as we observe the flower, we can tap into something really special.
Now, his meditation for purpose is just as useful. It’s just the right length, with many pauses for you to allow yourself to receive whatever may come without expectation or judgment. By asking and just breathing, you can tune in to yourself deeply. A lot of us grow up not knowing our purpose because we are bombarded with messages from media and family that tell us what we’re “supposed” to do. Reconnecting and letting visions come to you is the best way to find out what it would look like if you did what you were here to do and were living your highest purpose. This is the first step to making things happen.
