Mindfulness should be a part of everyone’s daily routine
As a graphic designer who works from home, it’s very hard to turn that “work mode” off. I’m my own boss, so essentially, I make my own hours. That’s both a blessing and a curse because I can work as much as I’d like, but at what cost? I’m often always feeling stressed by the next project on the horizon or the next design that I haven’t sent off to a client yet. The “Mindfulness in a Modern Age” collection has helped me take some time out to experience life as it happens without having to worry about the past and the future. Mindmekka brought up a ton of great points about how distracted we are in our everyday lives, and how we’re often wasting our time thinking about things that we can’t control.
I felt like she was speaking straight to me. My mind is always taken over by work stuff. It’s almost like I’m never off the clock, and I’m certainly not giving enough time to the hobbies that I enjoy and the people that I love. When you get wrapped up in that lifestyle of working at home and making your own hours, it can be easy to believe that “always on” behavior is normal, but it’s really not. Humans need to relax, and in turn, mindfulness is important for every human being.
Since listening to the podcasts, I’ve practiced some of her mindfulness tips throughout my everyday life. One of my favorites is taking mindfulness breaks. It doesn’t take too much time out of my day, and it usually makes me feel very relaxed by the end of it. I try to take at least a couple of mindfulness breaks throughout my work day so I can stay clear-minded and stray away from getting swamped by my work. Everyone needs just a little bit of mindfulness in their day, and this audio course offers a great resource of information for those looking to exercise this skill.
