Help Getting Through the First 30 Days of Sobriety
There is a book “Living Sober” that is a lot like this. But this is also really great for someone who is newly sober to listen to and I recommend, if possible in day one or two, because the information is quite important, especially “Withdrawal”.
Early recovery is a time for readjusting to life without drugs or alcohol. Achieving and maintaining sobriety requires changes in your lifestyle, relationships, coping skills and every other area of your life. All of this change makes people in early recovery particularly vulnerable to relapse. This tape set is at least an overview for people in their first few days or months and gives an overview of the challenges they might encounter.
Clearing Space is pretty good. Some of it is a little bit off, like you have some severe attachment to your beer t-shirts, I’m not so sure that will lead to a relapse, but maybe if you’re someone who saves beer cans… Obviously if you have beer in the fridge, get rid of it or as the speaker says, booze at the office as well, dump it. Best bet too, is do it with someone else. Some of the information in the tapes is obvious, but there is also, really a lot to think about. So listen to it at length.
Professional treatment is about myths and misperceptions. Professional help is a good choice for anyone, so why not alcoholics. Therapy, that suits you, can help you “work on you” and better yourself. So why not if you have the opportunity? He also breaks down the different forms of “professional treatments” that are available, so that the listener understands the difference that most insurers offer.
Overall this is a good set of tapes. “Living Sober”, the book is also a great help for those in early recovery.
