This Course Will Save Your Life and Your Lungs
I’ve tried quitting smoking at least five times, but I always end up relapsing. I’ll get stressed out and need something to take the edge off, or be hanging out with friends and get offered one, or just find a hidden pack and figure I shouldn’t let it go to waste. Unfortunately, I have sensitive skin so nicotine patches and gum don’t work for me. It’s all down to my willpower. As I’ve shown, I’m not great at self-control.
Usually I try just going cold turkey, which hasn’t been successful. Even if I could use patches or gum, it would take a while to make the cravings go away. Thankfully, this course spreads it out over 28 days — not even a full month (unless it’s February). That gives enough time to let the habit of not smoking set in, while giving me things to focus on every day instead of how much I want another cigarette. The course starts out with helping you figure out the reasons why you want to quit in order to help you stay focused on your goal. It also offers solutions for common obstacles that you run into in the course of quitting. It even offers stories from former smokers to help give you even more reasons to quit and stay quit.
Right now, I’m on day 90 without a cigarette — three times the length of the course. As it says in the program, you have to take things one day at a time. Every day I don’t smoke is a blessing, and thanks to this program, I’ve had 90 of them. My wife is grateful, my coworkers are grateful, and my lungs are grateful. I never thought just listening to a podcast would do the trick that everything else couldn’t, but this one did.
