Getting Inspired to Learn and Focus on Creating

I had never been exposed to Ben Franklin’s idea of the 13 virtues until this audio course. Tom Cassidy and Richard Wilkins present a myriad of brilliant ways to reprogram your mind and master your focus through different metaphors, practices, and examples.

While he mentions many things such as the Reticular Activating System, the Quantum Mechanics Reframer, and even the Cognitive Alignment Tool (all of which are amazing tools), I found myself giving more of my attention to that of the Sausage Machine metaphor and The Script.

The Script is the name which he uses to refer to the negative voice that we all have in our heads. We are all born without a script, but as we grow and learn from others who have been taught the script, we too develop our own script that suits our insecurities perfectly. Many of us believe that the script is who we are, but it most certainly is not. This really stuck out to me because in the past few months I have become much more aware of my own script and how identifying with it affects my life. I have to remind myself often that it is not me and that I have the power and potential to be whoever I desire to be, which is apart from the voice of the script. Tom and Richard provide a great name and image to give to this mental phenomenon — stripping it of its power.

As for the Sausage Machine, it is the concept that what you put in is what you get out. If you want a pork sausage, what do you put in the other end? That’s right — pork! As it is with all other things. My favorite part of this is when he applied it to success. “If you want success, what do you put in?” Many of us have been taught to say hard work, time, elbow grease, and so on, however, it is as simple as putting in the ‘feeling’ of success. This is very relative to the Law of Attraction, and it really compounds on the power of belief.

He mentions a technique he developed, based on Ben Franklin’s approach. It involves highlighting 13 personal virtues or aspects that you wish to focus on for 13-week stretches, 4 times a year. Where he changes it, is he adds depth. The four levels of depth are mind, body, spirit, and interaction with others. So, if this week you are focusing on gratitude, you may also be doing so with the depth of interaction, meaning that throughout the week you can find different ways to express and be aware of gratitude in your interactions with others. Needless to say, I am really looking forward to trying out these practices to welcome more fulfillment into my life.

Whether you are looking for a good healthy listen to stretch your brain muscles or some new practices to awaken in your life, this audio course will entertain, inspire, and educate you.
